Welcome to My Happy Place

If this is your first time here, welcome! I’m Megan, the human behind Megan in the Midwest. My husband and our family currently reside in northeast Indiana. I am a former high school English teacher turned full time stay at home mom (for now!). I love photography, coffee, spending time with my family, traveling, trying new foods, and exploring all things in the midwest. I love to create content & share it with the world.

Fast facts about me…

  • Friends is my comfort TV show.
  • My husband and I met at a summer camp in upstate New York!
  • I will always order a vanilla latte at any coffee shop I go to (with oat milk if possible!)
  • A restaurant menu is best judged by taste testing their french fries.

Lives in: Northeast, IN

Alma mater: Purdue University! Boiler Up!

Family Life: Colin is my husband! We got married in 2017, and are enjoying growing in our marriage. We met as camp counselors at the best summer camp in upstate New York, Camp Walden. Colin is my behind the scenes guy both here on my blog, and in my every day life. He supports me in times of crisis and agrees to be my guinea pig when it comes to testing photo locations/lighting. Colin is truly my better half and the absolute best father to our baby boy, Kassel!

Favorite meal: I’ll eat anything! But no matter where we go, I always order a side of fries.

Signature drink: I love a glass of sparkling rosé after a long day of work or an iced oat milk latte to start off the day.

Favorite trips & places I’ve been: Our honeymoon in Jamaica! Or the years we spent living in Austin, TX.

Travel destination wish list: Anywhere in Europe!!

My toxic trait: If there’s a coffee shop, I HAVE to go in.

Occupation: High school English teacher currently staying home as a first time mom!

When did you start blogging and why?: I started blogging at the end of 2015, when I was living in Florida with my then-boyfriend and now-husband, Colin. I had been talking endlessly about starting a blog as a creative outlet. I grew up writing & taking pictures of the world, and wanted a home base to share those experiences with the people around me. For Christmas that year, Colin purchased my domain as a gift and told me to stop talking and start doing!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a blog? Just do it! It can be a scary path through uncharted territory (for me, entering the digital formatting world was like trying to learn a foreign language in a day), but so worth it. The most important thing is to just start writing or taking pictures or doing whatever it is you want to do. I feel like so many people feel the pressure to have the perfect site and images and color scheme, but if your content isn’t authentic, you’ll quit “blogging” after a day. Also – don’t get discouraged by how confusing the digital formatting world is – it may take a lot of time to figure out, but it’s worth it in the end. And if you can’t figure it out, hire someone like I did (Candice, if you’re reading this, I love you and my beautiful website!!)
